During the pandemic in 2020, the Oficina de Interpretaci\u00f3n de Lenguas (OIL) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Spanish government body responsible for sworn translations and interpretations, opened the door to the use of electronic signatures in sworn translations. Five years later, Order AUC\/213\/2025 was published in the Spanish Official State Gazette (BOE), establishing the legal framework governing their use and setting out the requirements for electronic signatures to certify the work of sworn translators and interpreters.<\/p>\n

Since then, electronically signed sworn translations<\/a> have had the same validity as their paper counterparts, provided they bear a qualified electronic certificate, such as one issued by the F\u00e1brica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (National Mint and Stamp Factory).<\/p>\n

This option offers several advantages. It reduces deadlines and costs by eliminating the need for printing and courier services. Electronic signatures also provide the same guarantee of authenticity as handwritten signatures and stamps on sworn translations, while reducing the environmental impact of the process.<\/p>\n
